The case

Despite NOMOS specifying the case of the Ludwig Neomatik as 36mm in diameter, it looks much larger when worn. Indeed, appraising this watch when affixed to my arm, I struggled to fathom why it looked as large as it did.

As the above wrist-shot illustrates, despite its slight stature, the Ludwig Neomatik looks perfectly at ease on my bulky, hirsute wrist. Perhaps one explanation for the larger than reality appearance can be attributed to the lugs which, similar to the aforementioned hands and hour markers, are slender and elongated, extending across the wrist and occupying a significant portion of arm.

Another possible reason for the perception of size may be attributable to the minimal bezel area, resulting in a comparatively large dial area. The dial accounts for a high percentage of the total case width. An obvious benefit of this design language is that the significant dial area augments legibility.
A function of the ingenious DUW3001 automatic movement (an area I will discuss in more detail later) is that it is supremely slim, resulting in a slender case measuring only 6.95mm in height. The dividend for this horological svelteness is a timepiece which sits close to the wrist without unduly protruding.
